She was born Oct. 9, 1933, in Mendon, a daughter of the late William T. and Elizabeth C. Swank Cantrell. She married Harvey E. Taylor. She later married Richard Rose.
Alta was a member of the Congregational Church of Mendon. She enjoyed animals, flowers, baking, cooking, doing latch hook, making blankets, and working on jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. She especially loved spending time with her family and riding in the Gator with her brother, Jerry.
Survivors include five children, Catherine (David) Gieker of Clayton, Christine (Brad) Buss of Loraine, Michael (Tammy) Taylor of West Lafayette, Ind., Patricia (Gary Freeman) Rose-Freeman of Mendon and Amy (Dannie) Palmer of Mendon; 18 grandchildren, Melissa Voorhis of Loraine, Dawn Brown of Basco, Lonnie Creasy of Golden, Melinda Wittler of Mendon, Daron Pilkington of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Katie Taylor of Mendon, Valerie Hallas of Goldsboro, N.C., Jerry Gray of Loraine, Richard Gray of Fowler, Bradley Buss of Quincy, Anthony Buss of Mendon, Destiny Buss of Loraine, Nathan Buss of Loraine, Austin Buss of Loraine, Richard Rose of Mendon, Paul Freeman of Fort Drum, N.Y., Elizabeth Freeman of Mendon and Joshua Palmer of Mendon; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Ethel Meyers, of Kirkwood; and two brothers, Donald Cantrell of Quincy and Jerry Cantrell of Palmyra, Mo.
She was preceded in death by six siblings, Junior Cantrell, Isabelle Branstetter, Ruby Welte, Ralph Cantrell, David "Bud" Cantrell and Raymond Cantrell.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday in the Congregational Church of Mendon with the Rev. Dennis Gartung conducting. Interment will be in Mendon Cemetery.
VISITATION: 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the church.
