GOLDEN, Ill. -- Alvin J. Meints, 95, a lifelong resident of Golden, died at 11:43 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 27, 2009) in the Golden Good Shepherd Home in Golden. Alvin was born on Sept. 7, 1914, approximately three miles east of Golden, to Juergen Meints and Barbara Schoene Meints. He married Arlene Aden on Feb. 12, 1939, in the Bowen Lutheran Church in Bowen. Arlene died June 17, 2006. Alvin attended Immanuel parochial schools, Golden Grade School and Golden High School. He was a retired farmer and had given of his time and talents to numerous worthwhile causes in Golden, including Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Golden Good Shepherd Home. Alvin is survived by his son, Paul Meints and his wife, Julie, of Bloomington. He was very proud of his two granddaughters, Laura Meints of St. Louis and Jenna Meints of Chapel Hill, N.C. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family's sincere thanks are extended to Good Shepherd for the loving care given Alvin. SERVICES: Cremation rites have been accorded.
