CLAYTON, Ill. -- Arnold A.H. "Pete" Heinecke, 90, of Clayton, died at 4:40 a.m. Saturday (March 30, 2013) in the Golden Good Shepherd Home, Golden.

He was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Adams County, a son of the late Carl F. and Anke Flesner Heinecke. He married Dorothy Bruns Sept. 1, 1946, in South Prairie Lutheran Church, east of Golden. She survives.

Pete was a farmer his entire life. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Golden, where he was active in the Lutheran Laymens League, served as elder, Sunday School teacher and on the board of education. He was also a board member of the Golden Good Shepherd Home. He enjoyed hunting pheasants and quail. His greatest joy was the times spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, survivors also include his children, Robert (Loretta) Heinecke of LaPrairie, Bonnie (Richard) Humes of Clayton, Dennis (special friend, Nancy Settles) Heinecke of Carthage, Joan Heinecke of Clayton, Wendell Heinecke (Sara) of Clayton and Kenneth (Gina) Heinecke of La Prairie; 17 grandchildren, Carl (Julie) Heinecke, Sara (Brian) Metzger, Luke Heinecke, Meagan Humes, Miranda (Seth) Vermillion, Matthew Humes, Bradley (Brandi) Heinecke, Brian (Brittany) Heinecke, Kenzie (Aaron) Brocksieck, Suvannah (Michael) Flesner, Wendee Heinecke, Callie Luft, Keaton Heinecke, Autumn (Doug) Rampley, Miranda Baker, Wesley Heinecke and Alanna (Drew) Yingling; nine great-grandchildren and expecting two more this spring; a sister, Rosella Moormann, of Plymouth; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brianna Baker, and four sisters, Alma Flesner, Mildred Schlueter, Dorothea Wear and Ida Wear.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Golden, with the Rev. Mike Grieve conducting. Interment will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Golden.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Hunter Funeral Home, Golden.

MEMORIALS: Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Golden Good Shepherd Home or Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
