Barbara Ann Lawler, 88, of Quincy, Illinois, formerly of Loraine, Illinois, passed away at 3:03 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Home in Quincy, Illinois. She was born on September 23, 1936, in Quincy, Illinois, a daughter of Lester and Mildred (Bennett) Halsey. She married Richard N. Lawler on March 19, 1964, at the Vermont Street Methodist Church in Quincy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2005.
Barbara was a Unity High School graduate. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in teaching at Western Illinois University. After graduation, she spent the majority of her 35-year teaching career in Central CUSD#3. Art and Music were a big part of Barbara’s life. In her youth, she sang at several weddings. She was a worldly woman and enjoyed traveling to France and Europe with family. She was very meticulous, from getting her hair done every Friday to the way she kept her home.
Barbara loved her family and was proud of being a great grandma.
She is survived by her son, Eric (Janeen) Lawler of Dekalb, Illinois; daughter, Amy (Eric) Severin of Corbonod, France; grandchildren Christina (Charlie) Woolford, Allison Lawler, Nathan Lawler, and Megan (Brad) Kerkman; great grandchildren, Haley and Colt Woolford; a brother, Kent (Dina) Halsey; a sister-in-law, Alice (Edward) Smeds of Glenview, Illinois. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Dennis Halsey, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerald and Shirley Crank.
