Barbara Smith

Barbara J. Smith, 79, of Ursa, passed away peacefully at 2:55 pm on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She was born on March 26, 1944, in Quincy, the daughter of the late Herman & Maizie May (Jones) Hultz. Barbara married Everett Smith Sr. on August 6, 1960, and he preceded her in death on November 16, 2003.

Barbara worked as a bartender for many years at various establishments in Adams County. She enjoyed playing bingo, playing slot machines, going out for nice dinners but was especially fond of the time spent with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons; Everett (Teresa) Smith of West Point & Eric (Kim) Smith of Cartersville, Georgia, daughters; Lorna (Larry) Houghton of Mendon, Lisa (Vincent) Parker of Mendon & Rebecca Smith of Quincy, nineteen grandchildren; James, Cheryl, Joe, Mike, Elizabeth, Kenny, Ashley, Deanna, Tyler, Angela, Emma, Matthew, Loretta, Anthony, Eric Jr., Hunter, Julie, Jodi & Erica, forty-one great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a brother; Thomas Hultz of Strawberry Plains, Tennessee, two sisters; Mary Marthaler of Quincy and Susan Conover of Stillwell and by several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her husband and parents, Barbara was preceded in death by three grandchildren; Joyce, Jacob & Amanda and by two brothers; George & Gordon.
