Betty L. Smith

Betty L. Smith, 95, of Golden, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 12:36 a.m. at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

She was born on February 20, 1930, in Shabbona, Illinois, a daughter of Thomas Leroy and Zoe Louise (Mills) McGill. She married Wayne Edwin Smith on July 6, 1948, in Virginia, Illinois. Wayne preceded her in death on November 7, 2007.

Betty was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking large meals for family gatherings. She excelled at baking bread, making noodles, and preparing apple butter. Always generous and cheerful, Betty was known for her positivity and warm smile.

Betty is survived by her children, Thomas (Marsha) Smith of Clarksville, TN, Donald (Betty) Smith of Golden, IL, Wayne “Eddie” (Kim) Smith of Sunrise Beach, MO, Peggy (Michael) Kile of Caddo Mills, TX; brother, Marvin McGill of Galesburg, IL; Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wayne; son, Ronald Lewis Smith; daughter, Linda Sue Jones; brothers, Thomas, Kenneth, Verle, Richard, Melvin McGill and her sisters, Joann McGill, Mary Bishop, Vera Hawks, Nellie Dunmire; daughter-in-law, Margaret Smith; grandson, “G.W.” Gary Wayne Jones, Jr.; granddaughter, Angie Wright.

A Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 9:00 until 10:00 at the Triplett Funeral Home in Golden, IL.

A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Hersman Cemetery in Herman, IL. Sherri Renner to officiate. Memorials may be made to the Golden Good Shepherd Home.
