Glen J. Walton, 89, of Mendon, Illinois, passed away at 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Home in Quincy, Illinois.
He was born on August 11, 1936, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, a son of the late John and Frances (Carl) Walton.
Glen graduated from Quincy High School. Following his education, he began employment at Kresge’s in Quincy, where he met Jo Ann, who would become his wife. He had a passion for motorcycles, which served as his primary means of transportation during his courtship with Jo Ann, as he did not yet own a car. He married Jo Ann Hudnut on April 4, 1957, in St. Boniface Catholic Church at Quincy, Illinois.
Throughout his career, Glen worked for several companies—including the Packaging Corporation, Colt Industries, Quincy Hardware, and St. Mary’s Hospital—all of which eventually closed. He later retired from the Maintenance Department at Blessing Hospital. He was an active member of the National Rifle Association and dedicated several years of service as a volunteer firefighter with the Mendon Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff on Southern Court at the Good Samaritan Home for providing compassionate care.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann of Mendon, his children, Richard Walton of Rushville, Robert J. Walton of Quincy, and Teresa (Chuck) Burton of Layton, Utah; son-in-law, Jeff Owen of Quincy; grandchildren, Jason, Beth, Leah Ann, Jessica, Cory, Taylor, Alexis and Shelby; great grandchildren, Kelloen, Brennan, Carter, Kainoa, Kyra, Madelyn, Piper, and Kaiea; sisters-in-law, Janice Walton, Mary Jane Casley, Shirley Hudnut; a brother-in-law, Harry (Dottie) Hudnut. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Catherine Jo Owen; brothers: Kay Walton, Dale Walton, and Eugene Walton (infant); sister: Betty Sparks; brothers-in-law: Everett Sparks, Donald Casley, and Robert "Bob" Hudnut.
Per Glen's wishes Cremation rites have been accorded.

A Memorial Service honoring Glen’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois. The service will be officiated by Deacon Terry Ellerman. Interment will immediately follow at the Mendon Cemetery located in Mendon.
Visitation is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Southern Court at Good Samaritan Home or the American Cancer Society.
