Hewitt Dean Erke, 90, of Quincy, passed away at 2:33 PM, Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
He was born on October 20, 1932, the son of Andrew Clarence and Julia N. (Daugherty) Erke. He married Loretta Nagel Erke on October 21, 1962, at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Sutter, IL.
He is survived by his three children, Dean Erke and wife Diana of Leaf River, Dale Erke and wife Leah of Quincy and Barbara Dickhut and husband Brian of Camp Point, five grandchildren, Terra-Anne Erke, Sierra Erke, Lauren Erke, Logan Erke, Dylan Dickhut, and one great granddaughter Hailey Erke and a step great-grandchild Teagan Rubright. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Loretta and two brothers, Quenton Erke and William Erke.
Hewitt was a 1950 graduate of Quincy Senior High School. He was a farmer and began farming immediately following graduation. He was a hard worker, retiring at the age of 85. He was a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau, Adams County Farm Bureau, and the Pork Producers Association.
He was a man of deep Christian faith and was a member of the Ellington Presbyterian Church, where he served on the church council session. Hewitt was a simple man that enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed taking care of his yard and supervising the barn and farm activities.
There will be a funeral service for Hewitt at 10:00am on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church in Quincy, Illinois. The Rev. Ron Cox will officiate.
Interment will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy.
Visitation will take place between 4:00pm and 7:00pm, on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois.
Memorials in Hewitt Erke's name may be made to the Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church.
