John O'Brien

John H. O’Brien, 82, of Quincy passed away on Sunday, November 20, in Illini Hospital in Pittsfield.

John was born on September 4, 1934 in Quincy to the late Vernon and Ethel (Nichols) O’Brien. He married Reba Woodruff on September 24, 1954. They had four children, Jerry (Julie) O’Brien Fort Branch, IN, Terri (Kevin) Wombles of Pittsfield, Jill (Mark) McGlauchlen of Pittsfield, Shawn (Crista) O’Brien of Pittsfield.

Also surviving are; 9 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 14 step great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Charlotte Nelson and Eve Evans, 2 nephews, Chuck French and Keevin Lee.

John was a member of Quincy Association of Realtors since 1975 and served on the board for many years. He was a member of the Mendon Masonic Lodge # 449, Quincy Consistory, Ansar Shrine, where he was Captain of the Skeeter Patrol.  John was on the Board of Directors for the Unit 4 Foundation. He was instrumental in many fundraising events, such as the Unit 4 Foundation Golf Outing and the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital Poker Run, Both generating substantial funds for important causes.

John was very humbled, but proud of his sobriety since March 27, 1977.

Services will be 1:00 P.M. on Friday, November 25, 2016 in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon with Pastor David Schuring and Ernie Bolen officiating. Masonic services will follow the services in the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Mendon Cemetery Mausoleum in Mendon.  Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the services in the Funeral Home on Friday.  Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Unit 4 Foundation or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. www.Hunterfuneralhome.com
