Judith “Judy” R. Barnes, 86, of Ursa, Illinois, passed away at 3:48 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024, at her home. She was born on August 22, 1938, in Rochester, Minnesota. She was a daughter of Walter and Hilda Benck. She married Joe Otis Barnes, Sr., on February 13, 1960. He preceded her in death on February 12, 2005.
She attended Winona High School. After graduation she continued her education, receiving her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. She worked for many years at the former North Adams Home in Mendon, Illinois. Judy enjoyed reading, camping, and sewing. She also had a fondness for watching The Young and The Restless and General Hospital. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are: her children, Julie Barnes of Queen Creek, Arizona and Jayne Knox of Ursa, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Patty Barnes of Shelbina, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Christopher Barnes, Whitney Dowell, Rayvin Duesterhaus, Abigail Knox, Michael Barnes, Mackenzie Wainwright, Demarea Clopton, Mercedes Clopton and Nicole Altgilbers; ten great grandchildren; her brother, Kenny (Marlene) Benck; and a brother-in-law, David Bundy. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; son, Joe O. Barnes, Jr.; daughter, Jacquline Altgilbers; grandson, Justin Lamborne, and her sister, Mary Bundy.
A Memorial Service honoring Judy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024, at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois. Pastor Larry Smith will officiate. Inurnment will immediately follow at the New Providence Cemetery, near Ursa.
Visitation will be held on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. in the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
