Loretta Ensminger

Loretta L. Ensminger, 88, of Loraine, Illinois, passed away 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Sunset Home in Quincy, Illinois.

She was born on May 3, 1937, in Carthage, Illinois, a daughter of Gilbert and Martha (Shriver) Bottorff. She attended Central High School in St. Louis, Missouri. She married Carol Dean Ensminger on July 2, 1955, in St. Louis.

Loretta worked at the Quincy Clinic until retiring to run the Loraine Superette with Carol in 1985, managing the bookkeeping. Her well-kept beautiful home and impressive gardens were admired by many. Skilled in sewing, quilting, and painting, Loretta was known for her attention to detail. She was independent, enjoying new challenges, loving traveling and adapting quickly to technology. An active member of Loraine Community Church, she volunteered at funeral luncheons and was well-known for her deviled eggs. Loretta loved Diet Pepsi, her cats, and the movie “The Godfather,” but most of all she loved her family. She was a devoted mother and caregiver for each generation culminating in a deep bond with her grandniece, Addy.

Survivors include her brother Lowell Bottorff of Loraine, grandson Jeremy (Terese) Simpson of Quincy, great grandsons Peter and Danny Simpson of Quincy, niece Marcene (Eric) Seiz of Springfield, nephew Brett (Amy) Bottorff of Loraine, great niece Addison Bottorff, great step niece Averyawana Seiz, brother-in-law Daniel Cheney of Loraine, and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters Christien A. Simpson and Josie Ensminger, sisters-in-law Rita Kay Cheney and Betty (Wendell) Sullivan, brothers-in-law Bruce (Esther) Ensminger and Ronnie (Dolores) Ensminger, and Aunt Lucille Bottorff.

Visitation for Loretta will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Triplett funeral Home in Mendon. Memorials may be made to the Loraine Community Church.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Loraine Community Church, 610 East Center Street, Loraine, Illinois. Rev. Larry Menschel. Interment will follow at the Curless Cemetery.
