Margie T. Aten, 87, of Rushville, passed away at 6:30 AM, Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at the Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rushville.
She was born on October 10, 1928, in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of the late Henry and Elsie (Crozier) Tutt. She married Donald E. Aten on January 18, 1950, at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2008.
Surviving are her daughter Cheri Baker and husband Roger of Rushville, two grandchildren Samantha Maliongas and husband Louis and Gene Baker, six great grandchildren Emery and Lane Maliongas, Paisley, Pierson, Declan and McKinley Baker, one sister-in-law Peggy Tutt of Austin, Texas and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister Nancy Sloan and one brother Robert Tutt.
She was 1946 graduate of Rushville High School. She worked at Cudahy Packing Company in Rushville and worked as a clerk and cashier at the sale barn in Rushville. She was the ultimate stay-at-home mom. She would sew dance and Halloween costumes. She was a Girl Scout Leader. She worked with her husband on the family farm, always putting in a huge garden.
Margie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rushville, where she took attendance and was in charge of the curriculum for over 40 years. She also served on the Citizens Advisory Committee considering building the new Rushville High School in 1959. She was active with Schuyler American Legion Post # 4 Auxiliary.
Services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 24, 2016, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with Reverend Grant Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, September 23, 2016, at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Memorials are suggested the Sunday School Program at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville.
