Mendon

Marilyn M. Loos, 91, of Mendon, Illinois passed away peacefully at 6:50 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Good Samaritan Home in Quincy, Illinois. She was born on September 16, 1933, the daughter of Samuel and Genevieve (Dighton) Bolton. Marilyn married the love of her life, Richard Loos, whom she met at WIU on October 20, 1956, at Golden Point Church in Hamilton, Illinois. He survives.

Marilyn attended a one room school and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1951 and earned a degree in Home Economics from Western Illinois University in 1955. She taught Home Economics at Alton and Unity High Schools before raising a family and earning an Elementary Education certificate from Quincy College. Marilyn returned to teaching in Unit 4 at Loraine Elementary in 1970 until her retirement in 1994 but continued to substitute teach for some years. In 2016 she was honored as Senior Volunteer at North Adams Home and received recognition from the IL House of Representatives. In 1979, Marilyn received third place for the "Outstanding Farm Wife Award" from the Adams County Farm Bureau Women's Committee. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Mendon for 67 years, where she taught High School Sunday school, decorated bulletin boards and was a member of the Cogitators Sunday School class. She helped prepare and serve numerous funeral and Lions Club dinners and served on various committees. She was also a 4-H leader for the "Mendon Modern Misses" for many years. Richard and Marilyn enjoyed bowling on the Farm Bureau Couples League on Saturday nights for many years. They enjoyed seeing the United States by taking numerous bus trips following Marilyn's retirement.

Marilyn expressed her love through cooking, and baking her famous orange and sweet rolls for family and church members and events. She delivered meals to the fields, enjoyed gardening and canning, sewing, crafting Christmas ornaments for her grandchildren, and making homemade cookies and candies for her family. She cared deeply for her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard; son, Steve (Roberta) Loos of Mendon, IL; daughters, Richlyn (Tim) Robertson of Quincy, IL and Janet Searfoss of Santa Monica, CA; seven grandchildren, Lindsay (Roy) Spaulding, Trevor Loos, Ryan Robertson, Tyler (Tara) Robertson, Reagan (Katelin) Robertson, Preston (Lyra) Searfoss, and Brandon Searfoss; eleven great grandchildren, Talia, Maddox and Lennon Loos, Evan and Eli Spaulding, Nora, Luca and Thea Robertson, and Nolan, Hallie, and Sadie Robertson. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, David Searfoss, sisters, Virginia (Myron) Huls and Lois Scheuermann.

Funeral services for Marilyn will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the First Congregation Church of Mendon. Pastor Larry Smith will preside over the ceremony. Interment will take place at the Mendon Cemetery in Mendon, IL following the service.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Mendon or Good Samaritan Home.
