Nancy M. (Hackemack) Howard, 81, of Ursa, Illinois, passed away with her loving daughters by her side on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
She was born on July 1, 1943, in Quincy, Illinois to her parents, the late Wilbur and Elizabeth (Mund) Hackemack.
Nancy was raised on a farm near Sutter, Illinois. She graduated from Warsaw High School in 1961 and then attended Burlington Business School.
Professionally Nancy was a bus driver for 38 years with the Mendon Community Unit School District #4 and retired in 2015. She was affectionately known as “Miss Nancy” to her student riders. She also assisted as a Paraprofessional for 18 years.
Everyone knew she loved antiquing and refinishing the treasures she found. She loved the color green and snowmen which were prevalent throughout her home. She enjoyed genealogy research, traveling, and landscaping her yard with antiques and beautiful plants. Sedums were her favorites! A good novel, western movies, and old country music also brought her much joy!
Survivors include her daughters Tonja Lain (Curtis) of Hannibal, MO, and Tammi Trautvetter (Chris McClelland) of Mendon, IL; sister Elizabeth Sanders of Moberly, MO; nieces Kathleen LaRose (Mike Proctor), Melissa Dunagan (Wade), Kim Vasper (Eugene), and Kandice Chapman; and several great-nieces and a great-nephew.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Thadd Trautvetter, sister Helen Rockenfield, brother-in-law Robert Rockenfield, and brother-in-law Isaac Sanders.
Per Nancy’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded.
A private family memorial service will be held to honor Nancy’s life at the New Loraine Cemetery.
