Nettie Marie (Lubbert) Baker, 67, of Mendon, IL., passed away at 4:39 p.m., on Friday, October 13, 2023, at her home. She was born on November 14, 1955, in Quincy, IL., the only daughter of Lawrence “Babe” and Dorothy (Stockhecke) Lubbert. She married Jerry Baker on June 7, 1975, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Mendon, IL. He survives.
Nettie was a 1973 graduate of Unity High School. She worked at Motorola until it closed. She went on to work at Calvert’s Grocery Store, bartending, and as a newspaper courier. Nettie was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church and Triple Oaks Ladies Auxiliary. She loved fishing, boating, camping, and being on the farm. She cherished watching her grandchildren’s sporting events. She also cherished her cats and her grand-animals.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Baker of Mendon, daughter, Phoebe (Donnie) McGowan of Plymouth, IL., three grandchildren, Von Grimsley of Plymouth, IL., Brynne Grimsley of Barry, IL., and Andrea McGowan of Quincy, nieces, and nephews, Ronald Watts, Rhonda Watts, Michelle (Baker) Tubergen, Justin Baker, Andrew Baker, and Traci (Huner) Gray.
Nettie was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law, Alviena Baker, fathers-in-law, Harold Baker and Harold Clifford, brother-in-law, Harold Watts, and a son-in-law, Andy Grimsley.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, IL. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until the time of the service at 7:00 p.m. Causal dress is welcome. Memorials may be made to Fishing for Freedom, Quincy Humane Society or to the donor’s choice.
