Richard “Rich” F. Houseweart, 61, of Quincy, Illinois passed away at 3:15 am on Saturday, May 3, 2025, in his home peacefully surrounded by family. He was born in Quincy, Illinois on January 6, 1964, the son of David and Carol (Shepherd) Houseweart. He married Lori Jo Pruitt on June 2, 1984, in Quincy, Illinois and she survives.
Rich graduated from Quincy High School in 1982. Rich was a jack of all trades. He began his employment at the age of 14 as a dishwasher for Boag’s Restaurant. At 17, Rich embarked on his career in electronics, starting as a draftsman at Quintron, later known as Glenayre Electronics, where he became a salesman, and traveled The Middle East. He later co-owned and managed multiple companies with his business partners Tim and Mike, including Illinois Signal Communications, ISC Technologies, Going Bonkers, Playsmart, and Tiger Telecom. Rich retired in 2021 for medical reasons.
Rich loved activities like golfing, fishing, hunting, tennis, walking, biking, and bowling. He was the 2004 SLCC Men's Golf Club Champion. Rich had many friends and loved them all. He enjoyed hosting lots of parties at their home with his wife, many of them poolside, and many would say his hat he wore best may have been “cabana/pool boy”.
Rich really enjoyed spending time at their farm, doing anything outdoors. You could find him there several weekends out of the year fishing, four wheeling, shooting, hunting, and riding on his tractor with the kids and grandkids, teaching them everything he knew.
If you knew Rich, you knew that his kids and grandkids meant the world to him. He was one of those dads/grandpas who never missed a game, until it wasn’t physically possible anymore. Even when he couldn’t make it to the games, he requested videos of the kids playing so he could watch them at home and on facetime.
The family would like to thank Blessing Hospice and give a special thank you to his Nurse Matt, and Aid Kai. They would also like to give a special thank you to Katie for providing care for Rich and treating him like family.
Rich is survived by his father, David Houseweart of Quincy, Illinois; his devoted wife, Lori; his son, Steven (Nicole) Houseweart of Manchester, Missouri; his two daughters, Heather (Curt) Johnson of Quincy, Illinois and Haley Houseweart (Cooper) of Jefferson City, Missouri; his grandchildren, Brennan, Liam, Sophia, and Tinsley Johnson and, Spencer Houseweart; his great grandchild, Elena Johnson; his sister, Michelle (Junior) Waltman of Fowler, Illinois; his sister-in-law, Pam (Les) Holcombe of Quincy, Illinois. His faithful companion Rudy, who stayed right by his side until the end. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Rich's mother, Carol Houseweart, and his parents-in-law, Marvin and Corrine Pruitt, preceded him in death.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
