MENDON, Ill. -- Robert L. "Bob" King, 83, of Mendon, passed away at 12:23 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

He was born Dec. 19, 1931, in Mound City, Mo., a son of the late William L. and Pauline (Fries) King, Sr. He married Shirley Keith on March 22, 1953, at the Methodist Church in Mendon. She survives.

A 1949 graduate of Bellevue High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He first worked for Baker Builders, Moorman's and Merkel's Sporting Goods. He later worked at Doc's Shooting Supply. He retired from J.C. Penney as a sales associate in 1993.

He was member of Loraine United Methodist Church where he served on the board and was a Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of Bear Creek American Legion and Mendon Masonic Lodge 449. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He enjoyed watching all sports and was a devoted Cardinal fan. In 2012, he participated in the Great River Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three children, Alan King (wife Mary) and Roger King (wife Deborah), both of Mendon and Denise Myers (fiancAC.e Robert Myers) of Quincy; eight grandchildren, Andrew King (wife Brittany), Justin Reid, Alyssa Smith (husband Brett), Jocelyn Sorensen (husband Nathaniel), Brittney Myers, Jackson King, Jenny King, and Tyler King; five great-grandchildren, Blaine Freels, Kanaan King, Jameson Smith, Eden King and Avahlee Sorensen; one brother, William L. King Jr. (wife Coleen), of Chillicothe, Mo.; one sister, Wilma Ruth Wardlow, of Maryville, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Earlene King, of Bolivar, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by a son, Brian Lee King, and a brother, Richard King.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at Loraine United Methodist Church in Loraine, with the Rev. Connie Jenkins conducting. Interment will follow in Mendon Cemetery with military rites by Bear Creek American Legion.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon with Masonic services at the conclusion of the visitation.
