MENDON, Ill. -- Ryan Scott Woodruff, 42, of rural Mendon died at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 27, 2014) in his home.

Ryan was born on March 31, 1972, in Quincy, a son of Dean and Patti Robertson Woodruff. He married Sara Lynn Johnson on Nov. 22, 1995. Sara and their son, Bradyn, survive of rural Mendon.

Ryan was a 1990 graduate of Unity High School and attended Quincy University. Prior to his illness, he worked for Penn Daniels/Shopko and Titan Wheel. He helped out on the farm when he could. Ryan was a devoted Cardinals baseball fan and avid reader of history, crime and sport statistic books. He loved listening to music and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife and son, he is survived by his parents, Dean (Sue) Woodruff and Patti (Dennis) Schindler; sisters, Angela (Mike) Woodruff Maurer, Jill (Scott) Woodruff Lucey; one brother, Doug (Joyce) Woodruff; stepbrothers and stepsisters, Zach (Lori) Kerker, Clarissa (Brian) Bangert, Michael (Shannon) Schindler, David (Jen) Schindler, Todd (Jennifer) Schindler; nieces, Kristyn and Brittany Maurer; nephews, Josh Maurer, Blake and Jack Lucey, Logan Woodruff; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jack and Harriette Robertson; and paternal grandparents, John and Eleanor Woodruff.

The family would like to thank the community for the acts of kindness and prayers that you have shown us throughout the past seven years of Ryan's struggles with his illness. As you keep us in your thoughts and prayers through this difficult time, we too will keep each of you in our hearts forever.

SERVICES: 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, in Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon with Pastor Bill Mitchell officiating. Ryan will be laid to rest in New Providence Cemetery near Ursa.

VISITATION: Noon until 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Bradyn's education fund.

ARRANGEMENTS: Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon.
