Shane Dean Starman, age 54 years, of Quincy, died Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 9:00 A.M. in Blessing Hospital after an eight and half month battle with cancer. He was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Mendon, Illinois.
Shane was born on September 4, 1971, in Quincy, Illinois, to Garold (Gary) E. and Deanna L. Harness Starman. He married Patricia A. French on April 29, 1995, at the home of his parents, and she survives.
Shane graduated from Unity High School in Mendon, Illinois, in 1990. He was employed at several area businesses, spending the last 20 years at Kelly's Restaurant in Quincy.
Shane was true fan of the Washington Redskins/Commanders and the St. Louis Cardinals - what a collection of memorabilia he had !! He also enjoyed going to NHRA drag races and attending the Tin Dusters car shows. Additionally, he did enjoy playing those slot machines, always hoping that his "magic fingers" would find him richer than when he had started playing.
Shane's son Tyler was able to take his dad to several Cardinal games - 5 after Shane was diagnosed with cancer. Shane's daughter Andrea took her dad to the St. Louis Zoo, and even to the Avenue of Lights on Thanksgiving night.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, his son, Tyler, and his daughter, Andrea (Kohl) Kerkhoff, all of Quincy. He is also survived by his parents, Garold (Gary) and Deanna Starman, his brothers Christofer (Jackie) Starman, Anthony "Drew" Starman, and Kip Glenn Starman, all of Quincy. A niece and nephews, Colton Starman of Colorado, Kiersten Starman of Quincy, and Aryan and Wyatt Starman of Quincy also survive along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Preceding Shane in death were his grandparents Elbert "Dean" and Juanita Lee Featheringill Harness, and Glenn Carl and Mary Elizabeth Cramsey Starman, and cousins Rachael Harness, Ryan Koenig, and Aaron and Adam Burton.
Shane had a truly generous heart, loved to go Christmas shopping, and giving his Mother flowers on special occasions. Shane enjoyed working at Kelly's, teasing his co-workers, and, especially, talking with, and getting to know the customers. He will be missed by so many.
The family would like to thank anyone who prayed for Shane, brought food to the family, called, and/or gave monetary gifts. The family asks that those who are able to attend dress casually, or wear Cardinal attire in honor of Shane. Because of his love of animals, memorials may be given to the Quincy Humane Society in honor of Shane.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 5, 2025, at 9:00 A.M. at the Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois, with a service to follow at 10:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in the New Providence Cemetery in Ursa, Illinois. Pallbearers are Tyler Starman, Christofer Starman, Drew Starman, Kip Starman, Kohl Kerkhoff, and Adam Reed.
