The Rev. Oliver F. Taube, 90, of Quincy died Wednesday (Dec. 25, 2013) in Sunset Home, Quincy.

The Rev. Taube was born on July 29, 1923, in Whitewater, Wis., a son of Henry E. and Esther A. Jansen Taube.

He married Carol Marie Ord on Nov. 10, 1951, in the Mascoutah Methodist Church, Mascoutah. Carol died Sept. 30, 2011.

He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He served with the 8th Marine division during World War II in Guadalcanal. He left the service after attaining the rank of sergeant.

The Rev. Taube worked in research and supply with F.S. and Cargill before joining active ministry with the Methodist Church. He was the minister at West Point and Stillwell Methodist churches before becoming pastor at the United Methodist Church in Loraine. He also acted as chaplain at Sunset Home in Quincy. He gave his last sermon on Nov. 15, 2013, at the age of 90.

He was a lifetime member of the Lincoln, Ill., Masonic Lodge 210, and a member of the Loraine Lions Club, and he was very active in civic affairs. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing.

Surviving are five children, Steven (Shirley) Taube of Highpoint, Wis., Sharon Taube (Hugo Butz) of Sandy, Utah, DeEtta Taube (Ed Myers) of San Jose, Calif., Barbara (Michael) Obert of Quincy and Bruce Taube of Roscoe; six grandchildren, Shannon (David) Gagnon, Seija (Nathan) Swartz, Hannah Taube, Mandy (Cory) Andrews, Brett Obert and Meghan Obert; six great-grandchildren, Logan and Gavin Swartz, Gabriella Gagnon, Suzana Andrews, Rebekah Andrews and Gabriel Andrews; and one sister, Marie L. (Jim) Hufhand of Sebring, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, John "Jay" Taube.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday, in Vermont Street United Methodist Church in Quincy with the Rev. Dr. Scott Grulke and the Rev. Gary Livesay conducting. Private interment will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights.

VISITATION: 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in Hunter Funeral Home, Mendon.

MEMORIALS: United Methodist Church of Loraine or the Haven at Sunset Home.
