Verna Jean Sill

May 3, 1950 — January 13, 2024

Verna Jean “Jeanie” Sill, 73, of Durham, Missouri, formerly of Ursa, Illinois, passed away at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at her home.  She was born on May 3, 1950, in Quincy, Illinois, a daughter of Jim Cook and Wilma (Curtis) Chipman.

She married Richard Sill on November 27, 1981, in their home in Ursa, Illinois. They spent most of their years there until they moved to Durham, Missouri in 2011.

Jeanie was a 1968 graduate of Ewing High School. She graduated from Gem City Beauty School in 1976 and John Wood Community College in 1980.  She was so proud to spend 36 years at UPS working with some of the best people she had ever met.  She was a member of the Crossing at 48th in Quincy, Illinois.

Jeanie loved tending to her cows and especially her little dwarf "Thumper". She loved going to car shows with Rich and bringing home trophies.  She loved crafting and being with friends and family. Jeanie never met a stranger she didn't like.  She enjoyed spending time with her children whether they were farming, hunting or her granddaughter barrel racing.  She enjoyed talking to fellow cancer patients and was always giving them words of encouragement and hope. Jeanie was a guiding light to many and will hold a special place in our hearts.

The family would like to thank everyone for all their thoughts, prayers, and help over the past months.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Cody (Nicole) Sill of Fowler, Illinois, Susan (Terry) Houston of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Donnie Shanks of Cambridge, Wisconsin, Jimmy Shanks of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Lea Houston, Justin Shanks; siblings, Barb Wright, Lorrie (Lynn) Pilkington, Alice (Jim) Schnelle, Nick Cook, Bonnie Johnson, Glenn Chipman; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Jim) Thome, Chris (Mike) Svejda, and Teri Sill; stepfather, Hobart Chipman. Jeanie was preceded in death by her mother, Wilma Chipman; father, Jim Cook; father-in-law, Paul Sill; mother-in-law, Jeanne (Kenady) Sill; stepmother-in-law, Shirley Sill and a brother-in-law, Lew Sill.
