Verna Irene Post White of Camp Point, formerly of the Golden and Bowen areas, entered into eternal rest on May 8th, 2025, with her loving family by her side. Verna was born on July 11th, 1935, on her father’s birthday in rural Bowen, Illinois. She was the daughter of Edward H. and Alvena Lubben Post. She married Merle G. White on June 4th, 1955, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bowen. He survives. This union was blessed with a daughter Debra June on May 9, 1956. Verna and Merle were each other’s best friends and were less than one month away from celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. Verna attended grade schools at Prairie View and Climax schools in Bowen and West Point and graduated with the Bowen High School class of 1953.
Verna worked at the Golden Good Shepherd Home when it first opened in 1963 and was a Nurse’s aid at St. Mary’s Hospital in Quincy, IL. She was a cashier at Farm and Home Supply in Quincy and at Ayerco Convenience Center in Camp Point, where she eventually became manager for 16 years. She was later employed as secretary at the Adams County Housing Authority in Clayton for 15 years. In 2024, she retired as a volunteer from the Community for Christ Assistance Center where she served her community since it’s opening in 2004.
She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and proud member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Golden where she taught Sunday School in her younger years and along with her husband Merle served on the committee for Immanuel’s 125th Anniversary celebration in 1994.
Verna was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary. During those years she served as President of Post 801 Auxiliary in Golden and President of the Auxiliary of the Adams County Council of American Legion & Auxiliary.
Her greatest passions were her family, and spending time with Merle taking care of their home and grounds outside of Camp Point that they shared for over 50 years.
Survivors include her husband Merle, daughter Debra June Alexander of Peoria, IL and a grandson Aaron Alexander of Augusta, IL, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandson Ryan Gene Alexander, a brother Eugene Edward Post, a sister-in-law Peggy Post, and her parents Edward H. and Alvena L. Post.
