Viola Todd, 93, of Mendon, IL, died at 4:48 p.m., Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
Viola was born June 25, 1928, in Adams County, Illinois, the oldest of seven children of John C and Helen (Woodworth) Hamilton. She married Leroy William Todd on July 18, 1946. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2004.
Viola loved to fish, cook, and can produce which she gave away to anyone in need. Vi and Leroy had several business adventures - Hap's Market in Meyer IL which was destroyed by the flood and featured on Walter Cronkite news, Infrared Sandwich Shop and Pinball Parlor in Ursa IL. She was active in Artex, Tops Club, Cub Scouts, and frequently contributed articles to the Mendon Dispatch Times newspaper.
During the 1970's and beyond, she and Leroy opened their home to hitchhikers and others passing through the Mendon area. Viola loved to take care of others. She had a big heart for the underdog - a passion she shared with Leroy.
Survivors include her son, Timothy (Pamela) Todd of Quincy, and her granddaughter, Michelle Hesse of Quincy; two brothers, Leland Hamilton of Quincy, and Bill (Rhonda) Hamilton of Quincy, and many nieces and nephews Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; her parents; daughter, Sandra Hesse and stillborn grandson (Michael Hesse); her brother John T. Hamilton; and sisters Alva Mae Barnes, Betty Lewis, and Esther Totsch.
Services will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 13, 2021, at the Hunter Funeral Home, in Mendon, with Pastor Ron Tallcott officiating. Interment will follow in the New Providence Cemetery at Ursa. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 10:30 Am, Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon. Memorials are suggested to her family.
