Wayne E. Smith, 85, of Quincy, died Thursday (Sept. 26, 2013) in his home in Quincy.

Wayne was born on Oct. 17, 1927, in Quincy. He was a son of the late Benjamin and Lucille (Stump) Smith. He married Mildred Arlene Featheringill on Nov. 6, 1954, in Ursa. Mildred died May 5, 2012.

Wayne served in the United States Navy and retired from the United States Postal Service after 40 years of service as a rural mail carrier.

He attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing for crappie and looking for mushrooms. He loved children, eating ice cream and working with wood.

Surviving are three children, Warren "Rex" (Becky) Smith of Hannibal, Mo., Bonnie Lynn (John) Furniss of Fowler, and Esther D. (Chuck Thompson) of Richmond, Ky.; three grandchildren, Holly Tinklenberg, Scott Campbell and Cory Campbell; four great-grandchildren, Aribella and Jules Nokes, Alissah and Bryan Furniss and one due in December. Also surviving is a sister, Connie Kunz of Hamilton.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ben "Junior" and Carroll "Timer" Smith.

SERVICES: 2 p.m. Monday in the Hunter Funeral Home in Mendon with Dan Wesley conducting. Interment will be in New Providence Cemetery near Ursa.

VISITATION: Noon to 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
